HOW TO INSTALL SMOOTHGRIP

Only floor wax is recommended for use on our sensory pathways for permanent installations. Floor “seal” or “finish” may contain chemicals that will damage your path!

1. Area
Choose a smooth surface area for your decals.
Any hard surfaces including terrazzo, concrete, wood or tile are fine.
Avoid any deep grout lines or cracks.
If your area has floor wax applied, make sure it is in good condition (no peeling/flaking).

2. Cut
Use sharp scissors and cut out each element.
Plan the layout of your path while cutting, or visit our suggested layouts.

3. Clean
Once all elements are cut out, and you are ready to apply, thoroughly clean the floor area chosen. Remove any dirt, debris, and make sure the area is dry.

4. Layout
Craft the entire layout by placing the (unpeeled) decals on the floor to visualize the path before installing.

5. Peel
Once you are happy with the layout, peel the backing off the decal gradually as you are applying the element from end to end. Use your fingers, a soft roller or squeegee to work the graphic into the surface. Pay attention to the edges making sure they have securely adhered to the surface.

Use help for larger elements. If you experience too many air bubbles or wrinkles don’t worry, you can always remove and retry.

6. Smooth
Use a cloth or any soft material to smooth out any wrinkles and push out air bubbles. A small ruler wrapped in cloth or a squeegee work well.

Longevity

We recommend applying 5-6 layers of wax over the area once installed for an affordable and permanent application.

This will protect your decals from peeling and scuffing for many years.
Machine cleaners can be used and 1-2 layers of wax can be stripped/reapplied anytime

If you don’t apply wax over the decals, machine cleaners or floor scrubbers of any kind should be avoided.

Regular cleaning and mopping is, of course, no problem. At the end of the school year, you can remove the decals and place them on wax paper or a piece of plastic like a heavy-duty garbage bag to allow for annual floor waxing and heavy cleaning.

How to Install: Tough Foil (Outdoor and Indoor Permanent)

1. Area
For use indoors or outside, Tough Foil is excellent for any hard surfaces where increased longevity is needed and floor waxing is not feasible.
Make sure the surface temperature is above:
50 degrees Fahrenheit / 10 degrees Celcius.
The area should be clean, dry and oil-free. Remove any loose debris from the area. Avoid curbs/gutters or areas with heavy water flow. The surface area must be dry before application.

Avoid installing outdoors within 24 hours of precipitation.
* Tough Foil is not suitable for carpet applications.

2. Cut
Use sharp scissors and cut out each element.  Fiskars Titanium Non-Stick Scissors
or any carbide or titanium scissors are best.

3. Clean
Once all elements have been cut and you are ready to apply, make sure the area is clean and dry.

4. Layout
Craft the entire layout by placing the (unpeeled) decals on the ground to visualize the path before installing.

5. Peel
Once you are happy with the layout, peel the backing off the decal gradually as you are applying the element from end to end. Use your fingers, a soft roller or squeegee to work the graphic into any surface texture. Pay attention to the edges making sure they have securely adhered to the surface.

Note: If your installation is indoors and floor wax is being used, we recommend using our smooth removable decals. Applying 5-6 layers of wax over removable decals is a more effective and affordable permanent application.
